Saint Andrew’s British International School
A Vision Inspired by Scottish Education
Saint Andrew’s School opened its doors in 2013. The school’s founder and head teacher studied at the University of St Andrews in Scotland and later lived in remote villages in the Highlands of Inverness, where her own children attended small rural schools and learned in composite classes. As both an education professional and a mother, she witnessed how this personalised, close-knit environment helped her children learn, grow, and truly thrive.
Bringing a High-Quality Educational Model to Tenerife
When she moved to the Canary Islands, her vision was clear: to recreate this high- quality, nurturing educational model in the north of Tenerife. She selected El Sauzal for its peaceful, safe surroundings and its excellent location, easily accessible from nearby towns and areas.
A Growing Community Built on Trust and Personal Recommendations
The school grew quickly, largely through personal recommendations, and soon reached full capacity. From the beginning, the goal was to remain a small, family-style British school in Tenerife, focusing on exceptional educational quality and the individual care given to every child.
Authentic British Curriculum and Full English Immersion
Many families choose Saint Andrew’s for its strong English-language education and authentic British curriculum. Parents who initially search for a “bilingual school” soon discover that Saint Andrew’s students become genuinely fluent in both written and spoken English thanks to full English immersion from an early age.
More Than Language: Educating Confident, Caring Global Citizens
While the full British curriculum is delivered in English, children from 6 years old (year 2) onwards also receive language and science in Spanish, meeting the mandatory objectives. French is taught as the second language in the British curriculum from Year 3 (7 years old). Pupils leaving this British school succeed academically and socially in both languages and education systems.
