This week, Saint Andrew’s School had the privilege of welcoming the Red Cross for a
special First Aid Training Workshop. The session was both educational and inspiring,
teaching students vital skills that could one day help save lives.

The Red Cross instructor began by explaining the importance of first aid — how quick
and calm action can make a huge difference in emergencies. We learned how to assess a
situation safely, call for help, and provide initial care while waiting for medical
professionals to arrive.

Some of the key skills we practised included:

How to react in an emergency: looking for an adult and calling for help. Students were reminded that they need to know their full address!

CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation): how to check for pulse and/ or breathing and perform chest compressions effectively.

Helping someone who is choking: simple, practical steps that can prevent further harm. Placing someone in the recovery position.

The session wasn’t just about techniques—it was also about building confidence and
promoting teamwork.

Students asked thoughtful questions and took turns practicing
with training equipment under the guidance of the Red Cross team.

We are grateful to the Red Cross for sharing their time and expertise with us. Thanks to
their visit, the Saint Andrew’s community is now more prepared to act responsibly and
compassionately in emergencies.
